Dropbox Cuts 200 Jobs to Shift Investment Strategy

Dropbox co-CEO Ashraf Alkarmi announced Wednesday that the company is laying off approximately 9% of its global workforce, amounting to 200 positions. The cloud-storage firm remains profitable, but leadership is restructuring engineering, product, and design teams to sharpen focus on high-impact customer workflows and long-term growth objectives.

The reduction affects staff across engineering, product, design, and general administrative departments. Alkarmi stated that the move is intended to concentrate resources on specific product areas rather than spreading the current workload across a larger headcount. As part of this organizational shift, Chief Technology Officer Ali Dasdan will depart the company on November 18.

Impacted employees will receive a severance package including 16 weeks of base pay, with additional compensation based on tenure and 2026 bonus targets. The company is also providing equity vesting, COBRA healthcare subsidies for U.S. staff, and career placement services. Alkarmi noted that the decision is designed to align the company's internal structure with its two-year strategy of expanding into new markets and serving larger enterprise clients.
