With plans to distribute €7.5 billion to shareholders by 2028, BPER Banca is betting on a aggressive expansion strategy. BPER Banca Pledges €7.5 Billion Payout as Profit Targets Climb

The bank’s updated roadmap promises a payout ratio of at least 85% through 2028, utilizing a combination of cash dividends and share buybacks. This financial outlook follows a strong performance in the first half of the year, where ordinary net profit reached €1.33 billion—a 14.7% increase on a restated basis compared to the previous year.

Beyond internal growth, BPER is positioned as a primary beneficiary of the potential acquisition of Monte dei Paschi di Siena by Intesa Sanpaolo. If Intesa’s €30.6 billion bid proceeds, BPER expects to absorb 635 branches and central operations from the target bank. These assets would be funneled through Unipol, BPER’s largest shareholder, effectively cementing the lender’s footprint in the competitive Italian retail sector.
