From Basement Hustle to $4 Million Video Game Resale Empire

Caleb Ashton turned a $500 yard-sale habit into QuickFlips, a thriving resale business that generated $4 million in revenue last year. By prioritizing transparent buyback pricing and leveraging the growing consumer demand for physical media, the Kentucky-based entrepreneur has scaled his operation from a cramped home basement to a 33-employee enterprise.

The transition from side hustle to full-time operation began in 2019 while Ashton was living in a one-bedroom apartment, initially flipping textbooks and golf clubs. After losing his job at a collectible coin company, he pivoted to the video game market. He developed proprietary buyback software that allows users to receive instant, transparent offers for their collections, consoles, and trading cards. Once inspected, items are refurbished and sold through major e-commerce channels like Amazon and eBay, as well as his Lexington storefront.

Scaling the business required moving out of his home, where inventory once overwhelmed his basement and strained relations with neighbors. Today, the company maintains a retail complex to house its growing team. Ashton attributes the firm's success to a high-volume strategy that prioritizes quick turnover over maximizing margins on every single unit. This approach is bolstered by a massive social media presence—over 661,000 subscribers—which serves as both an educational hub and a customer acquisition engine.

Ashton believes the resurgence of physical media is fueled by a desire for ownership in an era of digital subscriptions and server shutdowns. With major manufacturers signaling a decline in physical disc production, collectors are increasingly turning to secondary markets to preserve their access to games. By focusing on the tangible, Ashton has found that nostalgia and the fear of losing digital access provide a durable foundation for long-term growth.
