Chapman arrived in Canada in January 2025 on a two-year Young Person's Visa, armed with professional qualifications but lacking local connections. As rejection letters mounted, she began illustrating city landmarks and memories to process her experience. What started as personal sketches in her spare time evolved into a brand when she posted a single video on social media, sparking immediate interest from a growing online audience.
She launched Toonie Stamps, selling tiny prints for $2, and expanded into physical retail by repurposing gum vending machines found on Facebook Marketplace. Today, her business model rests on three pillars: vending machine sales, an online mail club with 150 monthly subscribers, and commissioned design work. By partnering with local businesses and the Toronto Transit Commission, Chapman has secured spots for her machines in subway stations and a historic downtown post office. Her project has not only provided a livelihood but has allowed her to champion the independent retail scene that she says defines the character of her adopted city.
