Grigsby’s path to Baja was unconventional. Following a stint in disaster relief work and a degree from Columbia University, she found herself in Manhattan working on sustainable investments. Fly fishing, a hobby she picked up in New York, provided the initial connection to a community that would eventually become her client base. When COVID-19 forced her firm to transition to remote operations, she seized the opportunity to relocate to the Sea of Cortez, a region she had long frequented to visit family.
Upon settling in the small town of Agua Amarga, Grigsby identified a logistical void: local fishing captains lacked the digital infrastructure to reach travelers. She launched The Fish Ranch to serve as a booking engine and physical fly shop. Despite the challenges of managing a business as a single mother, she has integrated into the local culture, finding fulfillment in the unique bond between visiting anglers and the town's maritime experts. While she occasionally misses the cosmopolitan energy of New York, Grigsby remains committed to her life in Mexico, citing the exceptional ecosystem and the community she has built as reasons to stay.
