From Harvard to Big Tech: Navigating a Tight Visa Clock

Graduating from Harvard Business School in 2024, Abhijay Vuyyuru faced a daunting reality: no job offer, a competitive market, and a 90-day visa deadline. While his peers celebrated incoming roles, Vuyyuru had to pivot from traditional applications to a relentless, network-driven strategy that eventually secured his position at Google.

From Harvard to Big Tech: Navigating a Tight Visa Clock

The transition into the U.S. tech sector proved far more complex than his earlier experiences in India or Europe. After realizing that standard applications yielded only automated rejections, Vuyyuru shifted his focus to direct outreach. He sent hundreds of personalized messages to hiring managers on LinkedIn, a method that eventually unlocked a product management internship at Apple in 2023. Despite the success of that stint, the lack of immediate headcount forced him to restart his search just as he completed his MBA.

Financial pressure mounted alongside the ticking clock on his international student visa. To buy time, he accepted a private equity internship, which provided essential breathing room to continue his pursuit of Big Tech. The breakthrough arrived through a personal connection: a former Harvard classmate referred him to a hiring manager within YouTube. After five rounds of interviews, Vuyyuru joined Google in November 2024. Today, he balances his product management responsibilities with a significant online presence, where he advises others on navigating the modern job market using automation tools and strategic networking.
