How a Legally Blonde-Style TikTok Landed Me a Full-Time Role at Tarte

When college student and aspiring marketer decided to apply for a Tarte Cosmetics internship, she realized traditional applications were a lottery she couldn't win. Instead of sending a resume into the digital void, she channeled Elle Woods, creating a viral video that caught the CEO's direct attention.

The strategy was simple: treat the application like a marketing campaign. Drawing inspiration from the Harvard admissions scene in Legally Blonde, she produced a video demonstrating her personality and creative skills. The gamble paid off in January 2024 when Tarte founder Maureen Kelly commented on the post, leading directly to an interview and a summer internship on the brand's social media team.

Moving from a classroom at Chapman University to the New York City offices, the internship proved to be more than a resume builder. Instead of administrative tasks, she contributed to major campaigns and received direct mentorship from Kelly. By the spring of her graduation, the temporary role had evolved into a permanent position. She officially joined the company full-time in June 2025, proving that in a crowded job market, creative risk-taking often outperforms standard networking.
