France targets subscription platform Mym over digital safety laws

French regulator Arcom has launched a formal investigation into Mym, a subscription-based platform, over potential violations of the European Union’s Digital Services Act. The probe follows a preliminary review that signaled significant concerns regarding the site’s child protection protocols and overall service transparency standards.

The regulator issued a formal request for information on October 14, granting the company a 15-day window to respond before potential sanctions are imposed. Arcom officials identified specific failures in age-verification measures meant to shield minors from adult content, alongside complaints about opaque recommendation algorithms and incomplete terms of use.

Since the enactment of the SREN law in May 2024, Arcom has taken an aggressive stance on enforcing the Digital Services Act for platforms headquartered in France. The agency indicated that this inquiry marks a broader effort to force digital services to overhaul their user protection frameworks. Mym has not yet commented on the investigation or the impending deadline.
