EU Lawmakers Demand Crackdown on AI Deepfake Pornography

With 46 female MEPs targeted by AI-driven 'nudifier' software, a coalition of 119 European politicians is demanding the Commission enforce a continent-wide ban. The push follows research revealing that female politicians face a one-in-fourteen chance of becoming victims of non-consensual sexualized imagery, a rate vastly higher than their male counterparts.

The Agora Digital Transformation report highlights a sharp gender disparity in digital harassment, noting that while one in 500 male politicians are targeted, women face significantly higher risks. The harm remains largely invisible until the content proliferates, creating a persistent threat that often escapes immediate detection.

Backed by the Green party, the coalition has issued an open letter calling for the European Commission to standardize enforcement across member states. The proposal mandates that each country establish a dedicated, well-resourced authority to oversee the prohibition of these platforms by 2 December 2026. MEPs from the Socialists and Democrats, Renew Europe, and the Left argue that current resolutions are insufficient to protect public figures from this specialized form of digital abuse.
