Russian forces push for Dobropillia in race against the autumn leaves

General Denys Prokopenko, commander of the Azov 1st Corps, reports that Ukrainian defenders are currently facing a one-to-six disadvantage in personnel and resources. The front, stretching approximately 30 kilometers, is being pressured by the 8th, 41st, and 51st Russian armies, alongside elements of the 76th Airborne Division. Russian forces are leveraging heavy artillery and aviation to secure tactical gains in the village of Dobropillia, just five kilometers from the city center, in what soldiers describe as a high-casualty meat grinder.

The offensive appears calculated to bypass the heavily fortified Kramatorsk-Sloviansk line by encircling the urban agglomeration from the south. Sergeants from the National Guard note that Russian tactics rely on utilizing green cover to mask the movement of mobile groups, preparing for a transition to urban warfare as visibility decreases in the coming months. Beyond the ground war, logistics remain a primary target: Russian strikes have destroyed or damaged 250 Ukrainian Railways locomotives this year, prompting Kyiv to appeal for international assistance to maintain essential civilian and military supply chains.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces continue to strike deep behind enemy lines, recently targeting the Central air base in Rostov-on-Don. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed an SBU-led operation that reportedly damaged several helicopters and transport aircraft. As the battle for the Donbas enters a critical autumn phase, both sides are pivoting their equipment and strategies to counter the changing weather, with Russia integrating advanced electronic protection into its armor while Ukraine maintains a reliance on drone-integrated infantry defense.
