Wunsch acknowledged the counter-argument that Europe must maintain its course, particularly following the United States' previous withdrawal from the Paris Agreement. Yet, he insisted that the current strategy of pretending the 2050 target is set in stone while lacking internal conviction is unsustainable. He urged for a more transparent discussion on climate milestones, suggesting that rigid adherence to potentially unrealistic goals may ultimately do more harm than good to the policy landscape.
