UK Financial Regulator Bans Executives Over Fraudulent Acquisition Bids

Former Blue Horizon Asset Management CEO Paul Taylor and managing director Esmeralda Toni face lifetime bans from the financial industry after the Financial Conduct Authority ruled they falsified documents to support high-stakes takeover bids for a UK bank and the Reading Football Club.

UK Financial Regulator Bans Executives Over Fraudulent Acquisition Bids

The regulator imposed a £489,000 fine on Taylor and £121,200 on Toni for their roles in the scheme. Investigations revealed that Taylor repeatedly manufactured evidence of a €200 million bond portfolio to prove his company’s financial viability during acquisition negotiations. Toni knowingly assisted in the falsification of these documents, despite her initial denials during the FCA probe.

Blue Horizon’s failed attempt to purchase Reading Football Club concluded when the team was eventually sold to Redwood Holdings. Neither the firm nor the two individuals provided responses to requests for comment following the decision. The FCA ruling effectively terminates the pair's ability to operate within the UK financial services sector.
