Investigators have since arrested organizer Vasyl Honcharuk, who faces up to eight years in prison on charges of criminal negligence. Despite lacking a background in the defense industry, Honcharuk bypassed local military administration approval to stage the showcase of drones and electronic warfare systems.

Security failures were systemic. The site lacked adequate bomb shelters, with the nearest facility capable of holding only a fraction of the attendees. Furthermore, the event’s location near civilian housing and the proximity to Russian strike ranges ignored basic wartime security protocols. Experts note that the organizers failed to maintain operational secrecy; invitations were circulated nine days in advance, and the gathering was openly discussed on social media. This digital footprint allowed Russian intelligence to pinpoint the high-value target with ease. President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the event as a costly mistake, emphasizing that holding such large-scale gatherings under constant threat of ballistic strikes is fundamentally incompatible with the current security reality.
