CXMT Valuation Soars to $487 Billion in Record Shanghai Debut

Shares of chipmaker CXMT Corp surged 466% during their Shanghai trading debut on Monday, marking the largest first-day gain for a major IPO in China since 2006. The rally propelled the company to a market capitalization of $487.73 billion, officially crowning it as the nation's most valuable listed entity.

CXMT Valuation Soars to $487 Billion in Record Shanghai Debut

The stock closed at 49 yuan, a massive jump from its 8.66 yuan offering price, after reaching an intraday peak of 55.03 yuan. This performance eclipsed the previous market heavyweight, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, and set a new benchmark for turnover with 141.1 billion yuan traded in a single session. The IPO raised $8.6 billion, the largest mainland semiconductor offering on record, underscoring Beijing's aggressive push toward technological self-sufficiency amid intensifying U.S. export restrictions.

While the market response signals intense investor appetite for exposure to the current memory supercycle, analysts remain divided on the long-term outlook. Jing Jie Yu of Morningstar noted that while the initial pricing offered a discount relative to global peers, the current valuation reflects speculative fervor rather than fundamental stability. With only 6.73% of shares currently available for public trade, the low float has likely amplified price volatility. Despite concerns of a potential bubble, CXMT projects a significant financial turnaround, forecasting first-half revenue to rise more than sevenfold as memory supply shortages continue to drive demand from major tech customers like Huawei.
