Natalie Cassidy on weight-loss jabs and finding her own balance

After years of navigating a turbulent relationship with body image and extreme dieting, actress Natalie Cassidy is advocating for personal autonomy regarding weight-loss medication. The EastEnders star, who has openly documented her past struggles with eating disorders, insists that individuals deserve the freedom to make choices that serve their own wellbeing.

Reflecting on a 2007 fitness DVD deal that saw her lose four stone in three months, Cassidy now views that period as a mistake driven by unsustainable calorie restriction. The experience left her mentally and physically drained, eventually leading to a dangerous cycle of disordered eating. Today, at 43, she describes her mindset as far more settled, prioritizing family stability and emotional health over the rigid expectations of the past.

Her current approach to health is flexible rather than compulsive. While she maintains an interest in fitness—incorporating swimming, walking, and occasional kettlebell sessions—she refuses to let exercise become a source of stress. This shift in perspective is partly influenced by her desire to model a healthy relationship with food for her two daughters. By moving away from the pressure of scale-based goals, she has redirected her focus toward sleep quality, relationships, and professional balance following her exit from Albert Square.

Cassidy, who has partnered with the Make Life Gains campaign, remains cognizant of the physical changes ahead, including the eventual onset of perimenopause. Although she admits to missing the structure of goal-oriented training like the London Marathon, she is currently content with a lifestyle that prioritizes social connection and moderation. Her message to others is simple: find comfort in shared experiences and keep the conversation around weight and mental health honest.
