China and EU Pivot to Green Maritime Cooperation

More than 100 delegates from political, academic, and business spheres gathered to address the transition to a zero-carbon economy. Discussion centered on leveraging shared industrial strengths to accelerate circular economy initiatives and green shipping technologies. Ambassador Cai emphasized that as China and the EU enter their second half-century of diplomatic relations, this partnership serves as a cornerstone for addressing global climate challenges through practical, innovation-led cooperation.

Teresa Ribera praised China’s progress in sustainable development, advocating for a unified approach to multilateral governance in maritime transport. Former WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy reinforced this sentiment, labeling the environmental alliance between Beijing and Brussels an unavoidable necessity for global stability. Representatives from the Chinese Ministry of Transport joined European counterparts in calling for an expansion of these converging interests, aiming to turn technical collaboration into tangible policy frameworks for the shipping industry.
