For many, San Francisco represents the edge of the universe, a place where technical innovation happens at breakneck speed. Conrad, who moved there at 26 to join Y Combinator, admits the city is unmatched for early-career growth. Yet, the relentless social pressure and astronomical cost of living create a paradox: even at high salary levels, the financial stress is constant, and the physical space required for a growing family remains out of reach for most founders.
Argentina offered a different trajectory. Choosing Buenos Aires over New York, Conrad found a city that is not only safer than other Latin American hubs but significantly more affordable. With a house manager handling domestic logistics and rent costing a fraction of what he paid in California, he has traded the constant stream of investor dinners and social obligations for a focused, work-intensive environment. This shift has allowed him to build a business while preparing for the birth of his first child, proving to him that high-level professional ambition does not have to come at the expense of his personal life.
